Darkmoon faire just reappeared, and we got a new water mount. To get it, you need 500 Darkmoon Daggermaws, which have gone up to 200 each on my server. If you want the mount, either spend around 100k on it, or start farming the Daggermaws now. Also, you can 'sell' this mount. When/if Herbalism and Skinning dies down, this could be VERY worth. Edit: i jumped the gun a bit, it's in 7.1, but this is still gonna be worth keeping an eye on when legion mats die.
And honestly, 200g per Darkmoon Daggermaw right now on my server. That's just absurd. And ANOTHER Edit: Act now (if possible). My friend just had his server price go from 23g each to 400g each. Yet another edit: I just fished for half an hour with a 800 skill and a mix of open water and debris, and i got: 130 Darkmoon Daggermaws and 18 Darkmoon Firewater (Faster Gathering for 1 hour, 1 from each debris). Since Daggermaws are sitting on 200g each right now, that's quite a lot of gold. Post your data below so ppl can get a better idea of how their farming will potentially turn out:).
I did some research on this earlier yesterday and here's some things I've found out: It costs 500 Darkmoon Daggermaw and so far there's no other requirement for the mount, meaning that this is the only water mount that you can purchase without any rep tied to it. For people who can't stand grinding rep like myself, this is the easiest way to obtain a water mount. Sometime earlier this year (perhaps June/July?) they nerfed the droprate of the daggermaws.
I used to fish these to buy the pet and toys to sell in the ah, plus the Faded Treasure Map which gives a nice 100 darkmoon prize tickets. Back then I would hop on my alts and started open water fishing and you can easily start to fish the daggermaws from about 20 fishing skill. Since then Blizzard changed it so that the fishing skill will affect the droprate of the daggermaws. I tried using one of my alts which has 1 fishing skill, and I couldn't even fish up anything. Tried it on another alt with 300 fishing skill, I get a whole bunch of trash item and occasional daggermaw. It's only on my main that I managed to fish these up almost all the time, but even then I still get trash items from time to time. I did a test run for 2 hours yesterday, using my main which has 570 fishing skill + 200 from the doughnut lure which can be purchased from the daggermaw vendor.
All I got in those 2 hours were roughly 650 daggermaws, a bunch of consumables and some occasional trash items. Now keep in mind this is a small sample size, and I intend to run another test tonight for 4 hours.
Will update the post when I get the results. EDIT 1: I would suggest that you don't buy out the whole ah and reset the price right now. 99.99% of the community probably still have no idea about this so they will probably still put the daggermaws up for 10-20g ea. It's a good way to stockpile them and not overhype the market as this is still in PTR.
EDIT 2: So I've only managed to spend 3 hours farming tonight and by the end of it, I managed to fish up 907 Darkmoon Daggermaws + 82 firewater and a whole bunch of other consumables. Here's a few tips for people who are interested on fishing these:. Buy the oversized bobbler, it makes clicking the bait much easier. If your fishing skill is not high enough, spend a few daggermaws to buy the doughnut from the vendor for the +200 fishing. You can right click the bloated thresher and the sealed darkmoon crate whilst fishing (doesn't interrupt the cast).
EDIT 3: Formatting. Yeah yeah, i get what you mean. I just think about how good of an investment it would be. It is not a 100% sure investment because there is a very easy way to put the material in the market again. So all the goblins here will be farming it for two hours if they can make 100k for that (200each) In the other hand, just as an example, there are the chaos crystals. (Very well known topic by now) in which there is no easy way to put chaos crystals back in the market, hence the price will rise. So im just weighting how much gold i should dump, or not, buying the product.
How easy will be for anyone to just overflow the market again as soon as I buy all of it. That was my thought as well, I'd imagine that the only people who will buy these from the AH are the people who gets bored of fishing easily, and the people who can use their time for better investments (e.g. Herbing right now). I speculate the price to hit around 80-100g/ea on my small server. Don't also forget that since this is out on reddit, people will start paying attention to it (there's already a Youtube video discussing about this), meaning you'll have more competition which will inevitably drive the prices down. Then again, like what starien said: never underestimate how lazy people can be.
So who knows? Shrug. If you kill dinosaurs on the Isle of Giants, they drop bones that you can turn into a questgiver to get the Bone White Raptor (sorry can't link, at work). The quest takes x9999 dinosaur bones.
This was do-able back at the end of MoP in a few hours, now you can do it much faster (biggest limitation at this point is waiting for respawns). You can also get the spectral porcupette for 999 bones, but it's nowhere near as popular as selling the actual bones for. Bones sell slowly but are easy to gather, typically go for 1-2g apiece.
